Admissions Policy
The Faculty of Engineering (FOE) adheres to a well-defined and transparent set of admission requirements that align with national requirements and standards and the university’s rules and policies.
The Criteria for admission eligibility are defined in the ULS Academic Rules and Regulations and made accessible for candidates on the university’s website and at the Office of Admissions and Orientation (OAO).
The admission eligibility criteria
- The successful completion of secondary education with a recognized diploma or equivalent. For students in Lebanon: Lebanese Baccalaureate Scientific sections only (LS: Life Sciences or GS: General Sciences) or equivalent approved by the Lebanese Ministry of Education & Higher Education (MEHE).
- For students coming from abroad: Foreign Baccalaureate with a scientific equivalence certified by MEHE.
For students following the American Program (AP) who have a certificate from the MEHE authorizing them to follow the Freshman program: they must enroll in the Freshman curriculum (sciences), comprising 30 credits, at ULS over one academic year. Additionally, they must achieve at least a minimum score of 950 on the SAT. After completion, the applicant should provide the Office of Admissions and Orientation (OAO) with the freshman sciences equivalence certified by MEHE.
Admission Criteria
- Regular Admission
In addition to the national requirements, the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) requires applicants to its hybrid BE programs to take a French proficiency test (FPT), an English Proficiency test (EPT) in addition to the Engineering Competitive entrance Exam (ECE) in Physics, Chemistry and Math.
However, the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) requires applicants to its English BE programs to take an English Proficiency test (EPT) in addition to the Engineering Competitive entrance Exam (ECE) in Physics, Chemistry and Math.
These Languages Proficiency tests assess prerequisite skills necessary for the curriculum.
Languages proficiency tests: All incoming students must complete a languages proficiency test to determine their language proficiency level and whether remedial courses are needed. Based on the results, students will be assigned one or two remedial language courses or exempted from them.
Hybrid Programs eligibility
- Candidate with a French Baccalaureate or who have passed the DELF-B2 level are exempted from the FPT and should undertake the EPT and ECE.
- Candidate who has taken the SAT exam and passed at least a score of 540/800 in the reading section are exempted for the EPT and should undertake the FPT and ECE.
- Candidate holder of an SAT at least total score of 1250/1600 with at least 650/800 in math section are exempted from the ECE and should only undertake the Languages Proficiency tests, if needed.
English Programs eligibility
- Candidate who has taken the SAT exam and passed at least a score of 540/800 in the reading section are exempted for the EPT and should undertake the ECE.
- Candidate holder of an SAT at least a total score of 1250/1600 with at least 650/800 in math section are exempted from the ECE and should take the EPT.
P.S: Students accepted to ULS must demonstrate a level of Languages Proficiency by submitting one of the standardized tests accepted by the university of ULS Languages Proficiency tests.
Hereunder are the recommended scores for all proficiency tests:
- Redesigned SAT I Evidence- Based and Writing at least 540/800;
- Paper Based TOEFL PBT at least 550/670;
- IELTS at least 6.5/9;
- ULS – EPT at least 60/100;
- ULS- FPT at least 60/100;
- DELF- B2 Level or holder of a French Baccalaureate.
Undergraduate Applicants are requested to follow the hereunder steps in order to join the FOE programs:
Apply at the office of admissions and orientation and/ or online along with:
- A photocopy of his/her identity card (a photocopy of the passport for foreign applicants);
- A copy of the family civil extract;
- An original or a true copy of the grade transcripts of the three secondary classes certified by the school;
- The certificate of the Lebanese Baccalaureate or an equivalent degree, certified by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education;
- Three recent photo passports;
- NSSF, if any;
- USD 50 application fee (subject to change).
All exams are on campus and applicants must arrive 30 minutes prior the allocated exam date along with the exam registration sheet collected at the office of Admissions and orientation.
Once accepted, applicants are requested to pass by the office of admissions and orientation along with the NSSF document in order to collect the acceptance letter, pay the registration fee, meet the assigned advisor and register his/ her courses.
P.S: Admissions Entrance Exam results are published also on ULS official website.
- Transfer Application:
Applicants coming from recognized and certified universities and holder of a Lebanese Baccalaureate (LS: Life Science section; GS: General Sciences) and/or its equivalent (French Baccalaureate and/or Freshman Sciences Equivalence) are eligible to submit a transfer application to the FOE programs at ULS.
Transfer Applicants are requested to follow the hereunder steps in order to join the FOE programs:
Apply at the office of admissions and orientation and/ or online along with:
- A photocopy of his/her identity card (a photocopy of the passport for foreign applicants);
- A copy of the family civil extract;
- An original or a true copy of the grade transcripts of the university;
- The certificate of the Lebanese Baccalaureate or an equivalent degree, certified by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education;
- A detailed course description of the courses taken at another university;
- Two recent photo passports;
- NSSF, if any.
- USD 50 application fee (subject to change).
In case of transfer admission, the evaluation of transferable credits is based on the following criteria:
- The course validated by transfer must have the same credits hours as its equivalent in ULS;
- The minimum grade of the University of Origin that is transferable is 10/20 on the French scale (70/100 according to the US one). In alphabetical rating scale according to the ECTS, validated courses with A, B and C will be transferred;
- The number of transferred credits cannot exceed 50 % of the total number of credits required for BE studies at ULS. All transferred credits are declared and validated during the admission to ULS; afterwards, no transferred credits can be added.
- Applicants are exempted from the Admissions Entrance Exam Tests and should take the Languages Proficiency tests.
Once accepted, applicants are requested to pass by the office of admissions and orientation along with the NSSF document in order to collect the acceptance letter and the transferred courses sheet, pay the registration fee, meet the assigned advisor and register his/ her courses.
P.S: Applicants will receive his/her result by email from the office of admissions and orientation.
- Early Bird Admission and Scholarships:
Scholarships (Merit-Based Grants):
Scholarships Policy Scholarships intent to encourage students to strive for excellence and reward talent and perseverance. Merit support acknowledges outstanding academic achievements, leadership, and extracurricular activities. Scholarships are awarded based on overall grades or GPA, substantial academic contribution, and personal qualities. They are offered in order to reward a specific outstanding achievement. Scholarships can be offered to incoming students with outstanding high school performance, or to enrolled students with a consistent record of excellence and demonstrated leadership traits. Commitment to ULS life and striving for greater good are qualities that contribute to deserving a scholarship. ULS acknowledges those whose performance exceeds strict curricular requirements, like students who produce academic and creative material recognizable for its value (i.e.: peer review publications, participation in exhibitions, receipt of awards, initiatives with social, humanitarian, artistic or sportive impact …) * 2025 – Financial Support Policy and Procedures.
Prodigy Achievement Scholarship:
In order to be eligible to ULS Prodigy Achievement Scholarship awarded to incoming students on their first semester, a student needs to fulfill the following conditions:
- Must be an incoming student.
- Must:
- Ranked among the top 3 on the national level in one of the two sections of the Lebanese Baccalaureate (LS; GS) in order to receive a full scholarship;
- Ranked first in one of the two sections of the Lebanese Baccalaureate (LS; GS) on the regional level, first in mouhafaza receives 75% scholarship, first in caza receives 50% scholarship;
- Have an overall average ≥ 18/20 in one of the two sections of the Lebanese Baccalaureate (LS; GS); have an overall average ≥ 17/20 in one of the two sections of the Lebanese Baccalaureate (LS; GS) or its equivalent, in order to receive 75% scholarship.
- Alternatively, he/she must be among the top of his high school class for both Secondary I and Secondary II. Grades for Secondary III can be accepted if they further the student’s case. Applications will be assessed as part of the admission process.
- Must be in good conduct standing.
- Must have dully submitted his application and all supporting documents.
- Transfer students with transfer credit, are not eligible.

Incoming applicants with a general average of 15/20 on his Secondary I and Secondary II are exempted from the Admissions Entrance Exams related to the FOE but should take the languages proficiency test and granted a scholarship for the first semester at ULS.
*Scholarships varied between 15% and 100 % for this upcoming Fall semester 2025.
* Scholarships percentages are determined yearly.
Admission Validity
Undergraduate and / or transfer admission is valid only for the ongoing semester. Applicants who fail to register during the semester of which they were admitted, lose their right and will be required to submit a new form, which will be considered according to the available places for the new academic year. The results of the Languages Proficiency tests (LPT) remain valid.
P.S:
- All admission applications should be accompanied by the required documents before activating the file;
- Incomplete admission applications, or applications submitted after the deadline determined by the ULS academic calendar, will not be considered;
- This application, along with the submitted official documents, remain the property of ULS and will be confidential.
- The voluntary transcription of incorrect information and submission of falsified documents, will automatically lead to the cancelation of the admission request.
- Application fees are not refundable.
Registration for the admission tests should be made at the University’s Office of Admissions and Orientation at least five working days before the date of the test.
