The 7th ICABME 23 at Université La Sagesse

An International Event to present the latest advances

in Biomedical Engineering

President Nehme: “A testament to University commitment to the promotion of research”

Université La Sagesse hosted the 7th International Conference on Advances in Biomedical Engineering (ICABME23) animated by distinguished keynote speakers who are at the forefront of Biomedical Engineering, providing valuable insights and inspiring discussions.

This event, technically supported by the IEEE EMBS Lebanon Chapter, took place on Thursday, October 12 2023 in the Conference room at the Main Campus-Furn el Chebbak and was organized by the vice-dean of the Faculty of Engineering at ULS Professor Roy Abi Zeid Daou and his team, and Dr Abdallah Kassem the TPC chair of the conference.

As an International Event, the scientific conference serves as a platform for presenting the latest research while also fostering an environment for networking and collaboration and exchanging new ideas and applications in the field at national and international levels. Seventy papers were submitted to the conference and 51 papers have been accepted and will be submitted for publication to IEEEXplore. Each article is fully reviewed at least by 2 specialized reviewers.

Professor Georges Nehme, the President of ULS, pointed out that the conference is a testament to University commitment to the advancement of knowledge, and the promotion of research in general and particularly in the field of biomedical engineering. President Nehme emphasized the importance of research in advancing production and as the catalyst for innovation and continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, product development, and operational efficiency. He added: “Through scientific inquiry and experimentation, researchers uncover new methods, technologies, and materials that have the potential to empower production in various industries. Research enables businesses to stay competitive in a rapidly changing global marketplace, adapt to environmental and sustainability challenges, and create new solutions that not only meet current needs but also anticipate future requirements. Research is the driving force that fosters economic growth, and empowers industries to remain at the forefront of their respective fields”. Professer Nehme stressed on the University commitment to research and said that the ULS aimes to become a center for fundamental and applied research that meets the evolving needs of the market.

Professor Antoine Gedeon, the founder and dean of the Engineering Faculty at Université LA Sagesse welcomed the attendees noting that it’s the first conference organized by the Faculty of Engineering to foster knowledge, exchange and innovation, and to strengthen the collaboration not only in Biomedical Engineering but also in all engineering sectors.

Professor Mohammad Khalil, The Conference Chair of ICABME23 and Director of the Azm Centre for Research in Biotechnology and its applications emphasized that the specialization of medical engineering techniques is one of the most important specializations related to human life. He added that ICABME is classified among the first conferences in the region according to Scopus and this according to the huge number of citations of the articles published in the conference since 2011.

Also Dr. Mohammad Ayache from BAU and the IEEE EMBS Lebanon Chapter Chair pointed out that the conference is considered as the official scientific conference for IEEE EMBS Lebanon Chapter and provides a venue to promote and support collaborative research projects.

As well Professor Roy Abi Zeid Daou noted that ICABME 23 is a dynamic forum where scientists, engineers and practitioners from around the world converge to share cutting-edge research, innovative ideas and practical applications in the ever-evolving world of Biomedical Engineering.
