SUMMARY:Imaging the Future: Advancing Innovation and Radiation Protection Toward Smarter Medical Interventions - Beirut 2025
DESCRIPTION:Under the patronage of the Minister of Public Health\, Dr. Rakan Nassereddine\, Université La Sagesse inaugurated the international scientific conference organized by the Department of Medical Imaging at the Faculty of Public Health\, in collaboration with the Lebanese Syndicate of Radiographers\, the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT)\, and the Association Française du Personnel Paramédical d’Électroradiologie (AFPPE).\n\nThe conference aims to explore cutting-edge innovations in medical imaging\, strengthen competencies in artificial intelligence and advanced detection technologies\, and reinforce radioprotection standards to ensure patient and professional safety.\nThe opening ceremony was attended by Professor Georges Nehme\, President of Université La Sagesse\, Professor Diala El Khoury\, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health; Mr. Paul Makdessi\, President of the Lebanese Syndicate of Radiographers; Mr. Philippe Gerson\, representative of the ISRRT; and Ms. Jocelyne Le Goazigo\, President of AFPPE.\nThe event moderated by Mrs. Mirna Soueidy also brought together experts and practitioners from Lebanon\, Jordan\, Palestine\, and Algeria\, alongside directors of healthcare institutions\, hospital representatives\, faculty members\, students\, and senior administrators of Université La Sagesse\, reflecting the University’s strong regional and international academic standing.\n\n\n\n\nMinister Rakan Nassereddine\nIn his address\, Minister Nassereddine stressed that the conference reflects the commitment and conviction that the future of healthcare will be shaped by the intelligent use of data\, digital tools\, and emerging technologies.\nHe emphasized that Lebanon’s healthcare system must advance along two parallel paths: digital health reform and integration of artificial intelligence.\nHe highlighted the Ministry of Public Health’s ongoing digital reforms\, including the development of national platforms for surveillance\, registration\, licensing\, and supply-chain management\, enabling data-driven decision-making.. Artificial intelligence\, he noted\, is a natural extension of this transformation.\nThe Minister also referred to Lebanon’s experience with AI-supported tuberculosis diagnosis within the National Tuberculosis TB Program\, This tool allows chest X-rays to be read rapidly\, consistently\, and with a high level of accuracy which serves as a critical improvement in a country dealing with rising mobility\, population displacement\, and pressures on laboratory capacity. He described it as a significant achievement that enhances early detection\, timely treatment\, and community protection.\nDR Nassereddine underlined the future role of AI in radioprotection\, oncological imaging\, early cancer detection\, and hospital efficiency. He said: Our vision is clear: A health system where imaging\, diagnostics\, digital platforms\, and AI are integrated\, supporting clinicians\, empowering patients\, and strengthening public health.\nMinister Nassereddine concluded by underscoring the importance of partnerships between universities\, professional syndicates\, and international organizations\, congratulating Université La Sagesse for selecting a conference theme aligned with Lebanon’s national healthcare reform agenda.\n \n\n\nProfessor Diala El Khoury\nDean of the Faculty of Public Health\nProfessor Diala El Khoury welcomed participants to the University\, describing the conference as a long-awaited achievement\, having been postponed twice due to consecutive wars. She emphasized that the strong international participation reflects a deep trust in Lebanon\, in Université La Sagesse\, and in its academic mission.\nShe thanked the Minister of Public Health for his patronage\, noting that his presence reaffirms the Ministry’s commitment to advancing medical technologies and radioprotection in Lebanon.\nProfessor El Khoury highlighted the strategic role of the Faculty of Public Health at ULS as a key national actor in shaping the future of medical imaging education and professional practice. She recalled that\, in July\, the Faculty organized a three-day hands-on workshop on artificial intelligence in medical imaging\, bringing together representatives from major hospitals\, and successfully launched two cohorts of a one-year continuing education program in radioprotection\, in collaboration with the Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission (LAEC).\nShe underlined that the scientific program of the conference addresses a central question:\nHow can smart medical imaging and advanced radioprotection contribute to a healthier world?\nThe abstracts and sessions\, she noted\, reflect the latest advances in AI-enhanced diagnostics\, interventional imaging safety\, and evolving radioprotection standards\, enriched by the expertise of specialists from Lebanon and abroad.\nProfessor El Khoury concluded by thanking the organizers\, speakers\, partners\, and sponsors and reaffirmed Université La Sagesse’s commitment to innovation\, international collaboration\, and excellence in patient-centered care.\n\n\n\nPaul Makdessi\nPresident of the Lebanese Syndicate of Radiographers\nIn his intervention\, Mr. Makdessi emphasized the importance of the conference in addressing recent scientific advances that go beyond routine practices. He noted that artificial intelligence now plays an active role in detecting elements that may escape the human eye\, creating a productive synergy between technology and professional expertise.\nHe stressed the importance of data security\, effective communication among healthcare professionals\, and continuous training to keep pace with innovation\, underscoring the positive impact of these developments on patient care quality and clinical decision-making\nThrough hosting this international conference\, Université La Sagesse reaffirms its leadership in smart medical imaging and radioprotection by positioning academic excellence\, innovation\, and partnership at the heart of healthcare development.\n  \n  \n       \n  \n
