SUMMARY:The Rise of AI in Radiology at the Faculty of Public Health
DESCRIPTION:The Faculty of Public Health at Université La Sagesse\, in collaboration with the university’s Continuing Education Center and Canon Medical Systems\, organized a scientific training workshop titled “The Rise of Artificial Intelligence in Radiology and Its Impact on the Future of Medical Imaging.” The event welcomed Minister of Labor Dr. Mohammad Haidar\, expert in nuclear medicine\, who delivered a lecture on the role of artificial intelligence in improving diagnostic quality. Attendees included Paul Maqdisi\, President of the Lebanese Radiology Technicians Syndicate; Mr. Charbel Makhoul\, Regional Director of Canon Medical Systems; the university’s vice presidents; several members of the university council; Professor Diala Khoury\, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health; Dr. Nelly Hobeika\, Director of the Continuing Education Center; as well as a large number of doctors\, radiology technicians from various Lebanese hospitals\, and specialized professors. \nProfessor El Khoury: Advocating for Medical Imaging Innovation \nThe workshop opened with welcoming remarks from Professor El Khoury. She acknowledged Minister Haidar’s valuable contributions to the university\, highlighting his previous series of lectures on radiation protection that continue to make a scientific impact. \nProfessor El Khoury explained that the workshop aimed to open a scientific discussion about the therapeutic opportunities offered by the ongoing digital revolution\, as well as the challenges it presents to professionals working in diagnostic care through medical imaging. She emphasized the importance of adapting to rapid technological advances and benefiting from the positive developments in healthcare. \nProfessor El Khoury also noted that the workshop supports the mission of Université La Sagesse and its Faculty of Public Health by equipping students and professionals with the necessary skills alongside theoretical lessons. The event provided an opportunity to explore the latest technological innovations in healthcare\, helping participants keep pace with progress and changes while excelling in patient care and delivering high-quality services to those in need. \nDr. Haidar: Keeping Pace with Transformation Is a National Responsibility \nDr. Mohammad Haidar highlighted that artificial intelligence technologies have become essential to improving the quality of diagnoses and the accuracy of medical images. He stressed that keeping up with this technological shift is not solely the responsibility of the health sector but a national duty requiring cooperation among all sectors\, with a significant role for universities and higher education institutions. \nDr. Haidar emphasized that artificial intelligence is now a key factor in shaping the future of nations and should be accessible to all Lebanese citizens. He underlined the importance of universities bridging academic research with practical applications to ensure students and professionals develop a high level of competence and are well prepared for the future. He added that educational institutions\, through their research and training programs\, can nurture innovative ideas and pioneering initiatives that contribute to advancing the sector and providing advanced technological solutions. \nDr. Haidar also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between universities\, government\, and the private sector to build a sustainable dialogue platform. This platform would focus on setting priorities\, offering continuous training\, developing skills\, and exchanging expertise. Such efforts would enable students to actively participate in the technological advancement process\, particularly since educational institutions are key drivers in shaping the digital future. \nDr. Haidar pointed out that developing national capabilities requires ongoing investment in education and training. He highlighted the role universities play in supporting entrepreneurial initiatives and fostering an environment conducive to innovation. He concluded by affirming confidence that Lebanon has the talent and expertise to lead in AI-assisted medical imaging if supported by the right environment\, policies\, and fruitful cooperation. \nCommemorative Shield and Training Sessions \nMr. Makhoul\, Regional Director of Canon Medical Systems\, also spoke\, affirming the company’s commitment to the future of healthcare not only through its medical imaging systems but also by embracing advanced technologies and AI-driven innovations. He explained that these tools help improve diagnostics and support faster decision-making\, positively impacting patient treatment. He emphasized that technology must always go hand in hand with education\, noting the importance of this workshop\, and calling for continued sharing of knowledge and expertise to support the medical community. \nIn recognition of his contributions\, Minister Dr. Mohammad Haidar was awarded a commemorative shield by Université La Sagesse and Canon Medical Systems. \nThe workshop concluded after three days of sessions that included specialized training in advanced medical imaging using the latest technologies\, with a focus on cardiac\, breast\, and prostate imaging. The program also featured scientific lectures delivered by experts from Canon Medical Systems\, Université La Sagesse’s partner for the event.

La délégation a échangé avec deux officiels au Dicastère pour la culture et l’éducation\, Mgr Roberth Alexander Hernández Gómez (responsable de la section enseignement supérieur au Dicastère) et Mgr François Nitiema (responsable de l’éducation en langue française) ainsi qu’avec P. Sunny Kokkaravalayil\, S.J.\, Président de l’Institut Pontifical Oriental (PIO). La délégation a également rencontré Mgr Philippe Bordeyne\, Président de l’Institut Pontifical Jean-Paul II de l’Université Pontificale du Latran.
